For a genuinely magical experience, wake up before dawn and head to Lembing Rainbow Waterfall. Accessible only by 4WD and a short jungle trek from Sungai Lembing town, this waterfall earns its name from the rainbow that forms when morning sunlight hits the mist at just the right angle — a phenomenon that lasts only for a brief window each morning.

Arriving early is essential — the rainbow appears only in the early morning hours. Standing before it, with the jungle surrounding you and that arc of colour filling the falls, you'll understand why it's consistently rated among Malaysia's most breathtaking hidden treasures.

It's a perfect ending to any Pahang getaway — peaceful, cultural, and unmistakably scenic. The adjacent French village, Colmar Tropicale, adds a completely different aesthetic just steps away.

Planning Your Pahang Getaway

When is the best time to visit Pahang?

March to September is generally best when the weather is drier and suitable for outdoor activities. Be aware that the east coast monsoon season between November and February brings heavier rainfall to Kuantan and the east coast beaches. The highlands at Genting and Cameron are enjoyable year-round due to their cool temperatures.

How much does a Pahang getaway cost?

Around RM250 to RM600 per person — accommodation RM120–RM400 per night, food RM40–RM120 per day, transport RM50–RM200, and attraction entries and activities RM20–RM100. Cameron Highlands and Genting tend to be at the higher end due to more developed resort infrastructure.

How do I get around Pahang's different attractions?

Pahang's attractions are spread across a very large state — Genting and Cameron Highlands in the west, Taman Negara in the centre, and Kuantan and Lembing on the east coast. A private van is by far the most practical option for covering multiple destinations comfortably across different days without managing public transport connections between scattered locations.

Is a special vehicle needed for Lembing Rainbow Waterfall?

Yes — the road to the trailhead requires a 4WD vehicle. Tours from Sungai Lembing town centre are the easiest way to arrange this. The trek itself after the 4WD section takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes through jungle terrain. Start before 6am to be at the waterfall when the rainbow forms around sunrise.
